Coldplay es una conocida banda británica de pop-rock, que fabrica melodías preciosistas combinando sabiamente los momentos épicos con fases de introspección y reflexión. El grupo se formó en el año 1997, por iniciativa de Chris Martin (voz, piano y guitarra) y Jonny Buckland (guitarra), compañeros de estudios de la University College de Londres. A la primera formación llamada “Pectoralz” se une pronto otro compañero de estudios, Guy Berryman (bajo), y los tres comienzan a actuar en los pequeños locales de Camden bajo el nombre de “Starfish”. La formación definitiva, que pasa a llamarse Coldplay, se completa cuando se une al grupo el multi instrumentalista Will Champion (batería) y un viejo amigo de Martin, Phil Harvey, se convierte en el manager de la banda.
